Strange Day

Submitted by J Boogie [TLL] on Thursday, 7 May 2009Comments

thescream1upToday has been rather unusual. It started off with word that Manny Ramirez had been suspended for 50 games. I am no Dodgers fan, so I sat up in bed and raised my arms to cheer. But then I decided to dig deeper into what Manny actually did, only to discover that he had tested positive for hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). Further research led me to discover that hCG is actually a female fertility drug. I don’t really follow baseball that much anymore, given all the scandals that seem to plague the sport. Japan v. Korea was the last game I was truly excited over. But I find it strange that these athletes are driven so much by money (c’mon, did you really think these guys doped up for the love of the sport?) that they end up using things like female fertility drugs. If you are a MAN, and you take WOMAN drugs, I say you lose your man card. People are crazy.

Over in the East, I saw a picture online of Jackie Chan hanging out with the world’s largest sushi roll at a restaurant he owns. It just looked funny to me. But that wasn’t the thing that grabbed my attention. No, next to the article was a link that read: “Maid Charged for Adding Menstrual Blood to Food”. She was apparantly attempting to improve relations with her employer and thought this was a good idea. Clearly she was wrong.

Back here in the States, a new Star Trek is being released. Trekkies have been out en masse and there have been huge complaints over the direction the movie takes. I hear things like, “the bridge looks like it was designed by Apple” or “Sulu is too old.” The only reason this is strange to me is because this movie is poised to be the most successful in the entire history of Trek, so the trekkies out there will probably be met with the bird as far as keeping with tradition, as most trekkies would like to have seen. [This last bit on Star Trek isn't necessary, but I just felt like writing something about it since the movie drops today. LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!]

And perhaps the oddest thing, following hot on the heels of Arlen Specter’s tumultuous party switch comes none other than Joe the Plumber’s decision to quit the GOP. This must come as a disastrous loss to the GOP, who seem to be bleeding out party figureheads non-stop. In less than a year, they have gone through McCain, Palin, Romney, Jindal and Steele (C’mon, NONE of these politicians are viable as an option to lead the party. Old politics. Old Dog. You know the saying.)  Now, they have lost one of the last names that normal people recognize as being Republican. Who’s left? Limbaugh? I find it extremely amusing that the GOP is burning through their “credible” figureheads at an alarming rate.

Well, that’s all for now. I’ll update this post once some new weird and strange shit happens to me. It’s still early.

Update: 12:57 – Got rejected from a job that requires little more than an AA degree an hour after applying. I didn’t even list going to law school, and the jobs on my resume consisted of such places as 24 Hr. Fitness and Circuit City, and a smattering of office experience. FML.

  • I was surprised too when I saw Manny Ramirez's drug was some female product. Poor bastard - that's how he's going to be remembered lol. At least man up and take real steroids like all the others. I mean what is manlier... taking female fertility shit, getting rubbed with flaxseed oil by some dude, or taking the needle to the arm? I guess Bonds and Ramirez could go on a cruise during Ramirez's 50 game suspension.

Hey I think you should change "For Fun" section to "FML" section - FML stories are the most entertaining.
  • So I guess the drug he took is popular among players because it helps regulate and "normalize" hormone levels after doping, or at least I think. I find some conflicting stuff online, but I think that's why he was taking it. Also, I think Manny's liver or kidney is in for some trouble too, which, despite the doping, is not cool.
