Epic Fail!

epic-fail2American Journalism has failed you, the public. Unless you are independently searching for your news like you should be, major news networks are failing to bring you the stories that are relevant to your lives. In the past 48 hours, the main stories that I have seen have related to the Michael Phelps bong rip, Alex Rodriguez’ steroid use, and the constant stream about the banking bailout (great, 1 out of 3 guys. Good work).

The fact of the matter is, Michael Phelp’s use of marijuana is unimportant. The worries over Aquaman (or is it Aqualung)  setting the wrong example for kids are pointless. If a kid intends to use pot, he will find a way to do it regardless. (Remember people, irregardless is NOT a word) If you have that much of a problem with the “drug”, talk to your fucking kids about it. Tell them that Federal Law considers it illegal. Then attempt to explain why nearly 1/4 of the states allow marijuana use for medicinal purposes. After that, you have the enviable task of trying to argue with the logic of “But Michael Phelps smokes and he won 8 golds, so why is it bad?” Good Luck parental units out there!

A-Rod gets one line: You sir, are an idiot. How did you get caught?

But the real tragedy here is the epic failure of major news networks to cover stories (other than the bailout, which is an important story and on everyone’s minds) that are important to America. That’s right, despite my seemingly leftist liberally biased ravings, I am as American as anyone else! Have we forgotten about Iraq? Are we quick to turn a blind eye now that Obama has brought “hope” back to the American people? And I am not just talking about the fate of Iraq as a country when I refer to the war. There are other newsworthy stories out there. For instance, there has been an unusual and “alarming” surge in the number of suicides and murders being committed by Iraq war vets. I place alarming in quotations because, if this story is so alarming, where are the actual alarms? I have not seen this story mentioned once on any news network (correct me if I am wrong, and believe me, I’d love to be wrong here). My point is that America has been, for far too long, caught up with the garbage of celebrity tabloids, American Idol, and other unimportant things. The problem is that the news industry feels no need to present you, the American Citizen, with information that is truly newsworthy. If you have seen “Weapons of Mass Deception”, then you are aware of just how badly the TV news networks’ have failed you in the past. The thing is, there is no tide of change on the horizon. These networks that claim to bring you the “news” have grown complacent and wealthy while the average person has become ill-informed and out of the loop. If you want news, turn to international websites. But the fact of the matter is, if you want to know what is really going on in the world, it’s on you.
